The Drood Release New Single 'It Must Needs Wither' + Video

On Tuesday January 25th, the Denver-based Electronic-Rock band The Drood will release their new song and music video It Must Needs Wither on all major music platforms. The song was written, performed, and recorded by The Drood and features Nathan Jamiel (Synths, Guitars, Vocals), Daniel Watts (Percussion, Synths), and Hayden Peltier (Bass Guitar). The accompanying music video was created by Tom Nelsen. Inspired by Shakespeare's Othello and dedicated to the memory of the people who perished in the last couple of years. All parts were initially recorded in Lafayette, CO in September of 2021 as live, improvised takes. Post-production cleanup and punch-ins were added later but the core of this song is a captured ritual. The Drood pull creatively from the fringes of Post-Rock, Psychedelic, Shoegaze, Industrial and more. Their music offers an other-worldliness and intensity which seeks to speak to the soul; a fascinating overlap of mysticism and skepticism, inspiration and despair.

Saturne & Valfeu Release New Single 'Half Hearted Queen'

J'étais à toi peut-être avant de t'avoir vu ." "I was yours maybe before I even saw you." - Marceline Desbordes-Valmore, "Elégie" This verse perfectly sums up the love story of Saturne & Valfeu. French Witch Folk duo, Saturne & Valfeu released their second single, with accompanying video, last month. These two lonesome dreamers saw their feeling born in a fantastic universe of runes, fairies and incantations, on a large flat rock on the edge of an emerald river. They live a letter-writing true love, between prose and poems, without even having met. She calls him "Faun", he calls her "Shewolf". They changed lives for each other, and gave birth to this musical project. Valfeu is French guitarist, composer & electro producer. He is mainly known for his duet with Desireless, French pop star of the 80s ("Voyage, Voyage"). He has shared the top line of posters with Shaka Ponk, Calogero, Peter Hook of Joy Division, F

REVIEW: Neonpocalypse -ISH

Neonpocalypse is a new Stockholm-based solo project from Alex Svenson, who is also known for his work as lead vocalist in the dark post-punk band Then Comes Silence. The project has just released an EP on   Swiss Dark Nights   entitled   -ISH   which features six tracks -- four original songs and two remixes by Ash Code and Kurs. Svenson’s solo work is decidedly more synth-heavy with some nods to retro-wave and darkwave. The first track,  Broken Circles , immediately lures you in with strong synth lines and an energetic beat. Svenson’s elegant vocal stylings are highlighted especially in the refrain where he dares to go low, and then even lower. Something about it has the flirtatiously daring quality reminiscent of Fad Gadget's   Collapsing New People.   The energy is carried through on the next track,  Game Over , which has that buzzing mood of old French coldwave stuff like KaS Product but is clearly unique, incorporating beautiful synth pads to add some warmth to the cold.   A

REVIEW: Boy Harsher - The Runner (Film and Soundtrack)

The long-awaited film The Runner , written and directed by Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller of electropop duo Boy Harsher, has just premiered on Shudder. Darkest Wave Magazine doesn't generally do movie reviews, but we'll make an exception for a film that is, in essence, a themed music video album. There are three main ingredients that attract me to certain horror films. One is the music. The second is the monster. The third is the aesthetic. Boy Harsher's The Runner ticks all of those boxes. The music: The soundtrack to this movie will be Boy Harsher's fifth release. This nontraditional album contains 8 songs that are creatively featured in the film and tie the scenes together. Having enjoyed Boy Harsher's previous releases, especially their last album Careful, and having already heard Give Me A Reason and Machina (Ft. Ms. BOAN - Mariana Saldaña) , I was already sold on the music. Perhaps the music will be the best ingredient in this film for most people, especia
