John Carpenter Official shares a second look at his forthcoming collection, 'Anthology II (Movie Themes  1976-1988)', set for release on October 6th via Sacred Bones. 'Anthology I' continues the celebration of his compositional genius via an excellently sequenced collection of some of his most iconic pieces of music from his extensive filmography, all newly recorded with his musical collaborators Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter. Following the previously shared album opener "Chariots of Pumpkins" from Halloween III, today he offers up the newly reworked version of '69th St. Bridge' from Escape From New York - a dynamic track that encapsulates the futuristic and gritty nature of the film and the intensity and urgency of the protagonist's mission via the use of throbbing bass lines, driving rhythms, and electronic textures. Carpenter comments: "This piece played during a chase across an imaginary bridge. Isaac Hayes was going after Kurt Russell,

OMD Release New Album And Share New Single 'Bauhaus Staircase'

Bauhaus Staircase is the upcoming fourteenth studio album by English electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), and the fourth since their 2006 reformation. It will be released on 27 October 2023 by White Noise Records. The title track was released as a single on 22 August. During 2020's COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom, OMD frontman Andy McCluskey "rediscovered the creative power of total bloody boredom", writing the majority of what would become Bauhaus Staircase. Bandmate Paul Humphreys had recently become a father, which delayed his mixing of the album.Humphreys notes that the record also includes older songs that OMD "wrote for previous albums and couldn't find a way to finish." Its release – set for 27 October 2023 – was preceded by a single, the title track, on 22 August. The title is derived from the Oskar Schlemmer painting, Bauhaus Stairway (1932). McCluskey has stated that the album is likely to be OMD's last. Track Listin

I attempted to dissect not only the positive but the negative elements of nostalgia, primarily the romanticisation of the past, be it the politics of a country, the controversial legacies of film and musical icons or the sentimental idealisation of long dead toxic relationships." In 1990, a young American band, full of a precise kind of noise and darkness, were special guests on the US tour being undertaken by a group who had noise and darkness, poise and catharsis of their own. The young band: Nine Inch Nails. Those headliners: The Jesus and Mary Chain. Almost thirty years later, an invitation was extended. Would the Reid brothers care to reverse the roles and open for Nine Inch Nails on their own North American tour? Trent Reznor had been a

The Fall Reissue Album ‘Shift - Work’

It was all change when The Fall signed to Fontana. Guitarist Martin Bramah, who had founded the group with Smith, returned, replacing Smith's ex-wife Brix, who had been in the group since 1983. There were few cries of sell-out, however, when The Fall signed to a major; it was just part of an evolutionary process. The three Fontana albums, Extricate, Shift- Work and Code: Selfsh were stunningly consistent. With Martin Bramah and keyboard player Marcia Schofeld dismissed from the band, The Fall worked as a four- piece (Craig Scanlon, guitar; Steve Hanley, bass; Simon 'Funky Si' Wolstencroft on drums) for the frst time in the group's career. Shift-Work from April 1991 is another commercial Fall high- water mark; it contains Idiot Joy Showland, Smith's rant against bandwagon- jumping Madchester bands ("The shapeless kecks fapping up a storm, look at what they are: a pack of worms."), the one- time album title track, The War Against Intelligence, and the bucoli

And outside of a lavish Record Store Day career retrospective boxset in 2016, all three studio albums – Spooky(1992), Split (1994) and Lovelife (1996) – have been unavailable on vinyl since the 90s. With demand high, the band have been working with renowned engineer / producer Kevin Vanbergen to help them remaster their catalogue, starting with their studio albums. Catherine Wheel Reissues Available At Proper Records Aug 8th

Proper Records have announced pre-orders for the re-issues of Catherine Wheel’s first 3 albums, Ferment, Chrome and Happy Days with a release date of August 18, 2023.   Formed in Great Yarmouth in 1990, Catherine Wheel – singer guitarist Rob Dickinson, guitarist Brian Futter, bassist Dave Hawes and drummer Neil Sims – are possibly one of the greatest lost bands of that fabled decade. Swimming against several tides, they were loosely defined as 'shoegaze', and failed to fit in with the grunge or britpop movements in those years. They were of a size and scale to be supported by the upcoming Radiohead. Melody Maker said that Radiohead were like Catherine Wheel as they "function along a similar catharsis/contrivance axis, ladling existential angst into skilfully imposing song structures." Overseen by Pixies producer Gil Norton and recorded at Pink Floyd's Britannia Row Studios, where band favourites, Joy Division, had made Closer, Chrome marked a huge step forward, h

Pete International Airport Release New Album 'It Felt Like The End Of The World' On Little Cloud Records

Pete International Airport’s third album, It Felt Like the End of the World, is a triumph of process and vision. Named after a song by Peter G. Holmström’s other band, The Dandy Warhols, the eclectic project nails the elusive aesthetic of unexpected yet inviting sound art. The band’s quest to build immersive soundscapes that are also classic, catchy songs succeeds, in part, due to Holmström’s uncanny ability to curate and his penchant for dropping collaborators into challenging creative spaces—both virtual and actual—then letting them duke it out. Rachel Goswell from Slowdive, Alexander Hackett from Pang Attack, Dion Lunadon from A Place To Bury Strangers and the D4, and, none-other-than Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick (on 12 string bass), tangle with Peter’s usual coterie of musical foils. The results are folded into Holmström’s hyper-stylized world of symbols, themes, and archetypes.  The LP's core roster boasts the cream of the neo-psychedelic crop, of which The Dandy Warhols, an

Thanatoloop Announce Limited Edition Cassette On Witch Cat Records

From Witch Cat Records: Excited to announce the next Witch Cat Records release "Bioanarquía" from Thanatoloop . Available as a Limited Edition Cassette or Digital download. Available August 4th. Pre-orders start today.  Listen to the first single Nada es de Nadie on the Witch Cat Records Bandcamp Page below. At its core, Bioanarquía is an experimental psychedelic album. Multi-instrumentalist Michel Leroy uses layers of guitars, synths, electronic rhythms, and strange noises to push the boundaries of music collapsing in on itself to create walls of sound, otherworldly ambient pieces and intense chaotic moments. All is held together by Michel's rich vocals with lyrics of optimism in oppressive times. “This album I think is even more optimistic than my previous release “Vértigo”, but also with more abrasive moments. It is less industrial, more ambient, and has rhythm experiments with latin signatures, also more gaze guitars besides the acoustic one on track 3. My vocals are

Glasgow Darkwave Band Hanging Freud Release New Single + Video + Album With Spleen+

Hanging Freud are a Glasgow based production duo of Paula Borges and Jonathan Skinner. As a duo they combine their somewhat nomadic past with multicultural backgrounds of coming from Sao Paulo (Brazil) and London (UK), into a body of work that is more often than not described as uncompromising and genre defying. The band joins hands with the Belgian label Spleen+(division of Alfa Matrix, home to artists such as Front 242 and Trisomie 21) for the release of their 7th studio album, "Worship". The album will be released on digital platforms, double CD (with exclusive EP) and coloured LPs. The first single/video "Falling Tooth" is available below, with free download. “Falling Tooth” evokes the band’s influences ranging from post punk, ethereal, synthgaze, cold wave, ambient pop or yet experimental electronica. Paula’s vocals are dark, haunting, almost glacial, her enunciation is both plaintive and full of echoing fragile grace. While the cinematic music warps them all
